Up for your consideration is this vintage Tonk Saxophone. First of all I have no experience with Saxophones but I will try to describe it as best I can using the information that I have. I would also like to thank a fellow ebayer for the very helpful information he kindly provided to me.

Based on that information I believe it was made by Elkhart Band Instrument Co. In the mid 1920's with possibly Martin or Couturier provenance or lineage. I'm not clear on that. There is a link at the end of this description that may provide more definite information in this regard. I believe this saxophone is silver plated.

I polished a small area around the logo and inside the bell and the finish looks great. This sax is in good condition and I do believe it's playable. I base this on my asking a talented musician friend to try it out... It played well and sounded good while he played it. He said it's a good sax and deserves to be restored. With that said it may need a little work to be a truly good playable saxophone. I see nothing broken or missing but there are a few very small dents in it here and there. I don't how well they will show up in the photographs but they are there in real life. The sax measures 27-3/4" from end to end overall and about 24-1/2" without the neck installed. The bell measures 5 in diameter.

Based on those measurements I've come to the conclusion that this is a C melody saxophone. The markings on it are as follows: TONK SUPERIOR SAXOPHONE CHICAGO on the front of the bell and the number 52536 and LP (I believe LP stands for Low Pitch) on the body of the saxophone and the number 2536 on the neck.

I was told this saxophone is a model number 1370 and the serial number corresponds to a 1926 date. The case and accessories that are shown in the photographs are part of the package and includes a nice original music holder that attaches to the saxophone. In any case this is a nice old saxophone with lots of potential in the right hands.
